Reading the Listener-Rank Clue in Music Guessing Games

Music guessing games like Spotle often include a clue based on an artist's popularity rank by monthly listeners. It is one of the most useful clues, if you read it correctly.

What the arrow means

If your guess is ranked #40 and the arrow points up, the mystery artist is more popular, with a smaller rank number. Down means less popular. Many players flip this the first time.

Use it like binary search

Start with an artist in the middle of the range the game uses. Each arrow cuts the range roughly in half. Combined with country or genre, two or three guesses often narrow it to a handful of names.

Watch for "close"

Games may highlight a guess within a few places. That's a strong hint: the answer sits right next to your guess in popularity.

Caveat

Listener counts change daily. Ranks reflect the game's snapshot, not today's live chart, so don't over-think small differences.

The Spotle how-to-play page covers every clue type, and Spotle Answer Today has daily hints.
